The Biggest K-Pop Girl Group Releases Coming In May

Many of the tried-and-true, chart-topping girl groups in the K-pop space are busy working on new material, but it doesn’t look like there’s anything coming from the biggest acts in that space in May 2021. Instead, a number of exciting new acts, many of whom are still just getting started, are dropping new single albums and EPs, and any one of them may score a huge win in just a few weeks.

Here are five of the most highly-anticipated K-pop girl group releases coming in May.

May 10 – Oh My Girl – Dear OHMYGIRL

It’s been more than a year since South Korean girl group Oh My Girl last released a collection, so fans are understandably thrilled that a comeback is so near. The seven-member vocal act’s new EP Dear OHMYGIRL is slated to drop on May 10, and the band has been sharing fun video clips to hype up their enormous fan base and drive sales.

The six-song title will be fronted by the single “Dun Dun Dance.”

May 12 – WJSN THE BLACK – My Attitude

With 13 members, it’s not surprising that Chinese-South Korean girl group WJSN has enough talent to support several bands. In some Asian territories, it’s not uncommon for successful vocal acts with plenty of members to launch sub-units, which are usually smaller outfits featuring a handful of artists from the main band. WJSN’s second sub-unit, titled WJSN THE BLACK, follows in the footsteps of last year’s WJSN Chocome.

WJSN THE BLACK, a new four-member sub-unit, will officially debut on May 12 with the single album My Attitude, which will feature two tracks: “Easy” and “Kiss Your Lips.”

May 18 – TRI.BE – Conmigo

Brand new K-pop girl group TRI.BE only kicked off their time together earlier this year, but they are wasting no time doling out new tunes. Just a few months after releasing their first single album Tri.be Da Loca, they’re slated to return with Conmigo, a new two-track project. The set will be promoted with the single “Rub-A-Dum,” which could become their first proper smash in South Korea.

May 20 – GWSN – TBA

A year ago, GWSN scored their first top 10 album in their home country of South Korea with their EP The Keys, and now they’re coming back for more success. The septet hasn’t yet revealed the name of their upcoming project, nor what songs will be featured on it, but that information is surely coming soon.

TBA – Aespa – TBA

Details are scarce (very scarce) at the moment, but apparently rising South Korean girl group Aespa are slated to make a “comeback” in May, though what form it will take isn’t yet clear. The band only has two singles to their name, but both became hits on the World Digital Song Sales ranking in the U.S., and the pair of cuts immediately signaled that they were ones to watch.
